Mentor profile
Daniel Kang
Founder • ISEF Winner • Stanford Scholar
I didn't grow up with connections, counselors, or college coaches. I grew up in a two-bedroom apartment in Guam, in a financially unstable household, with parents who filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and zero exposure to elite academic institutions. There was no blueprint — so I built my own.
I cold-emailed professors, turned my kitchen into a DIY lab, and spent years independently developing a research project that ultimately won Best of Category at the Intel ISEF — the first time anyone had done so from the entire Oceania region. And when the time came, I applied to college with no institutional support, no legacy status, no consultant… and earned a full-ride to Stanford University.
That experience didn't just change my life — it shaped my mission.
Today, I lead Kang Consulting, a personalized research and college admissions practice built entirely through referrals and student success. I've helped students from all backgrounds — from underserved communities to international Olympiad winners — gain admission into Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yale, and Princeton, and win top honors at ISEF, Regeneron STS, and other elite global research competitions.
Before starting my own firm, I consulted with Squired and Red Ink Review, guiding students globally through high-stakes essays and strategy, always with a focus on clarity, authenticity, and storytelling that resonates.
I believe talent is everywhere — but opportunity isn't. That's why I do what I do.
Whether you're a future ISEF finalist or someone still discovering your spark, my goal is to be the mentor I never had — and help you become the version of yourself that the world can't ignore.
