Case study

What one engagement actually looked like

Where the student started, what stood in the way, what we did, and what happened. The quote is theirs, exactly as they wrote it.

Duke Admit

Starting position
Had sat through 15+ free info sessions from other college consultants, and none came close.
Constraint
Struggled with writing.
What we did
Unlimited sessions and personal advising; in a single session, Daniel reworked the Common App essay with him.
Result
A Common App essay he was genuinely proud of, out of one session.
I've done 15+ free info sessions from other college consultants -- none came close to the value Daniel provides. Unlimited sessions and personal advising for the price is unheard of, but it's the quality that blew me away. I struggled with writing before, but in just one session, Daniel helped me turn my Common App essay into something I'm genuinely proud of. He's insanely dedicated -- even after a personal loss, he still showed up for our session with full energy. If you're serious about getting into a T20 or T10, Daniel's your guy. No fluff, just real results.

Why Kang Consulting

Four things that are true of every engagement

  • The founders are in the work

Daniel Kang and Andrew Kang lead strategy on every engagement and stay in the weekly sessions themselves — the people who set the plan are the people you talk to when it changes.

  • Research is part of the practice

Research project incubation and competition coaching are run by ISEF winners who have done the work themselves. Your strategy stays with the founders from the first session to the last.

  • The cohort has a ceiling

Capped cohort capacity to preserve quality of support. That is a limit on how many engagements run at the same time, not a scarcity tactic — we do not publish a number.

  • The price is on the page

College Admissions Mentorship and Research & Competition Coaching from $18,000. Starting prices are published here, so the consultation is about fit and scope rather than about the number.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost?
College Admissions Mentorship starts at $18,000 and continues through admission decisions. Research & Competition Coaching starts at $18,000 on an annual engagement. Starting prices are published here, so nothing about the cost waits for a call; the scope above a starting price is settled on the consultation, not after it.
How much time does this take each week?
Weekly working sessions for the length of the engagement, plus the student's own writing between them. A family that cannot commit to a session every week gets less out of it, and we say so on the consultation rather than after it.
Do you work with students who are not local?
Yes. Sessions run online, so where a family lives does not change the engagement or the people running it.
Which engagement is the right one?
College Admissions Mentorship works with the student's real timeline — a senior applying in this cycle, or an underclassman with years to build — and continues through admission decisions. Research & Competition Coaching is for a student with a research project to run, on an annual engagement. The consultation ends with a plain recommendation — including, when it is the right answer, the recommendation not to work with us.
When should we start?
Early Decision deadlines close November 1; Regular Decision closes January 1. Starting later does not move those dates; it compresses the plan around them, and the early portion is the part that gets squeezed.
Can you promise an admission result?
No. Admissions decisions belong to the schools. No one can promise an admission result, and we don't. What we commit to is the work described on this page, done every week, with named people accountable for it. The outcomes published above appear with the methodology behind them.
